There are three major airports in the San Francisco Bay Area that serve both domestic and international airlines:
The San Francisco airport (SFO) is served by Millbrae Caltrain Station, which can be reached by taking Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART, from the San Francisco International Airport Station (located just outside the airport’s International Terminal). Caltrain provides rail service to Palo Alto Transit Center at least once an hour from early morning until about 10 pm. Alternatively, there are also SamTrans buses that travel between SFO (Terminal G) to Burlingame Caltrain Station (line 292) or to Palo Alto Transit Center (line 397, operates only at night). Tickets for BART, Caltrain and Samtrans can be bought at transit stations. More info about these options can be found on SFO’s website.
The San Jose airport (SJC) is served by Santa Clara Caltrain Station and can be reached by taking the free shuttle line 10 from SJC (the bus stops at both terminals). Tickets for Caltrain can be bought at the Santa Clara Station. More info about public transit options for SJC can be found on SJC’s website.
The Oakland airport (OAK) is served by the Oakland International Airport BART station (Terminal 1). The quickest way to reach Palo Alto is to take Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART, from OAK to Union City Station (through Coliseum Station) and switch to the Dumbarton Express Westbound. More info about BART’s service at OAK can be found on OAK’s website. More info about the Dumbarton Express can be found on its website. Tickets for both can be bought at transit stations.
More information about parking options is available at the Stanford Parking & Transportation website.
